Originally by: cosmoray I like the idea of group IPO's but I also think they MAY cause more problems than just running it by yourself.
Now EBank I think requires a larger team, due to the external coding, design and other functions required to make it a success. It has worked very well.
In a co-operative effort it would worry me about who controls the assets. Lets say I start an IPO with 4 other people, and 3 of those people walk off with a chunk of the assets/capital it will be my reputation that suffers. Potentially my profit share is diluted too.
I am also unsure about this because I haven't thought of any grand plans that would require more than 1 person to run.
I have to agree, with multiple accounts and multiple computers I currently have over 30 research slots, 20 production slots, escort/mission/freighter support and capabilities and no real reason to bring another human into the equation. Yes, if I had a partner they could have ran things for the week I was gone, but I trust myself to make good decisions, not someone else. Trust is the biggest limiting factor in all these endeavors and lets be honest, it is far easier to trust one person with 10 billion isk than it is to trust 5 people with 2 billion isk each. Your likely hood of scamming is higher with each member you bring on.
Example A: 1 person IPO means scam is 50% possibility, either they will scam or they won't Example B: 2 person IPO means scam is 50% chance per person, average chance still stays at 50% Example C: 3 person IPO means scam is now closer to 66% chance, 2/3 people scamming
Well, that sounded better in my head, but I am tired. Anyway, besides getting cheaper slave labor and "free materials" there is no reason with the current industry lay-out of Eve to operate with multiple people to run an IPO unless you are working with over 200 billion isk. I could scale my operations tomorrow from 8 billion to 80 billion without needing additional people, my goals might shift, I would no longer sell some items but it could be done. Now, turning 10% profit on 8 billion is easier than turning 10% profit on 80 billion. If it wasn't then everyone would be flying office decced out faction ships to reckless PvP in.
